The Government agreed to establish Hue city under central authority.
On September 10, the Office of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province announced that the Government had organized a conference to appraise the project to establish Hue city under the central government.
The conference was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh - Chairman of the Government's project appraisal council.

At the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh emphasized that Resolution No. 54 of the Politburo affirmed that by 2025, Thua Thien Hue will become a centrally-run city.
This is a project of important political significance, clearly demonstrating the will, aspirations and consensus of the people of Thua Thien Hue province.
Becoming a centrally-run city will create new influence and momentum not only for the development of Hue city but also make practical contributions to the Central region and the country.
After listening to the project report, the members of the appraisal council all agreed that the establishment of Hue city directly under the central government is in line with the policies and orientations of the Party and the planning of the Prime Minister.
The name "Hue city directly under the central government" is in line with the history and cultural traditions of the locality and is agreed by the majority of voters, reaching 98.67% of the total number of voters in Thua Thien Hue province.

The appraisal council unanimously proposed the competent authority to establish Hue city under the central government based on the administrative boundaries of Thua Thien Hue province and agreed with the plan to arrange and establish administrative units under Hue city under the central government.
After the establishment, Hue city has 9 district-level administrative units (including 2 districts, 3 towns and 4 districts), 133 commune-level administrative units, including (78 communes, 48 wards and 7 towns), reducing 8 commune-level administrative units.
When the members of the Government's appraisal council unanimously approved (17/17 votes in favor), Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh directed Thua Thien Hue province to urgently develop a plan to complete the standards of a centrally-run type I urban area, at the same time develop a roadmap for the arrangement of the organizational apparatus, proactively and reasonably solving the issue of human resources.
The Deputy Prime Minister also directed the province to develop a plan to arrange, handle, and use surplus public offices and assets effectively and economically in accordance with the law.
The Ministry of Home Affairs was also asked to urgently complete the draft submission and the Government's project on the establishment of Hue City under the central government to submit to the National Assembly at the 8th session of the 15th National Assembly (October 2024).
