The Covid-19 pandemic has severely affected the whole world, including Vietnam, unusual storms and floods devastated the Central region, causing many losses in human lives and property, many art programs, international festivals had to be postponed... However, 2021 also marked a strong mark of achievements in all areas of social life, including the fields of Culture, literature and arts. The category of Outstanding Performance Program of the Year went to the DVD of the performance program “Thank you angels” by author Tran Thi Thanh Tra.

Assessing the quality of the 2021 Music Awards, musician Duc Trinh, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Musicians Association, said that in the instrumental music genre, the authors have boldly invested in mixed orchestral ensembles: folk, symphonic with electronics, with historical themes, revolutionary wars, themes of love for the homeland and people, or brass orchestras have exploited national character, combining traditional music and Western music. There are some works that have creative exploration in structure and language of expression. However, there are still few works of high quality, truly creative and causing strong emotions for the audience... works of high quality are still only from some old authors, no new elements have appeared.

Regarding vocal music, this year's contest songs have included songs on the theme of environmental protection, which really caused strong emotions and were conquering, highly appreciated by the Evaluation Council; or writing about mothers, about love for the homeland, and preventing the COVID-19 epidemic also creates sympathy for listeners. However, there are still many familiar songs, the writing style is old-fashioned, many songs are similar in both melody and content. In addition to a few songs of truly high quality, there are still many songs performed by singers or recorded arrangements that do not match the musical text in both pitch and duration...

Regarding children's songs, this year's award has good songs for children that are suitable for their innocent age, well-staged so the effect is quite high.

For works on critical theory, the works participating in the award have quite diverse topics and genres, and the target audience is also different, from folk song researchers, lecturers specializing in vocal performance, music managers, and audiences of all ages (from young to old).

However, musician Duc Trinh also expressed regret that the theoretical and critical authors still focused on the surface rather than investing in depth. Many issues were raised but not resolved, there were quite interesting topics but the discussion was not convincing or not on point, there were inaccurate analyses and terminology... The works stopped at the content of compiling textbooks, experience in organizing events, field reports, introducing authors and works to the general public, sociological investigations, mainly historical, cultural, sociological, ethnomusicological, cultural development guidelines from a political perspective rather than musicological...

At the Award Ceremony, the Organizing Committee performed a number of works that won the 2021 Music Award.
