Adding Phuoc Dong - Long An port to the Southeast seaport planning

Phuoc Dong Port in Phuoc Dong Commune, Can Duoc District, Long An Province is proposed to be a general, container, and bulk cargo port with ships up to 20,000 tons.

The Ministry of Transport has just sent an official dispatch to the People's Committee of Long An province; Vietnam Maritime Administration; IMG Phuoc Dong Joint Stock Company regarding the addition of Phuoc Dong port in Phuoc Dong commune, Can Duoc district, Long An province to the Southeast Seaport Group Planning (Group 5).

According to the Ministry of Transport, in Decision No. 1579/QD-TTg dated September 22, 2021 of the Prime Minister approving the Master Plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the Vam Co wharf area belongs to Long An seaport, including the land and water area on the Vam Co River, from the downstream of My Loi Bridge to the Saltwater Canal, with the function of directly serving the needs of the industrial park, with a general port, container, bulk cargo; ship size up to 20,000 tons suitable for the operating conditions of the Vam Co River route. “Thus, the proposal of IMG Phuoc Dong Joint Stock Company to add Phuoc Dong port in Phuoc Dong commune, Can Duoc district, including general, container, and bulk cargo ports with ships up to 20,000 tons, is consistent with the planning orientation of the Vam Co port area in the Master Plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system,” said the Ministry of Transport.

Regarding the investment phase of the port, according to the Ministry of Transport, in the period before 2030, IMG Phuoc Dong Joint Stock Company proposed to add 4 wharves with a total length of 642 m for ships from 10,000 - 20,000 tons, with a capacity of about 1.5 million tons (including 0.75 million tons of raw materials for finished products of Tan Binh Vegetable Oil Factory 1 and 0.74 million tons serving the general needs of the industrial park) is well-founded and necessary.

The Ministry of Transport approved the policy of adding 4 wharves with a total length of 642 m for ships from 10,000 - 20,000 tons to the Detailed Planning of the Southeast Seaport Group (Group 5) for the period up to 2020, with a vision to 2030 as proposed by IMG Phuoc Dong Joint Stock Company.
