Phuoc Dong Port Industrial Park participates in the ”Economic Forum of Styria State (Republic of Austria) - Ho Chi Minh City”

23 enterprises from Austria participating in the ”Economic Forum of Styria State (Republic of Austria) - Ho Chi Minh City” on October 19 expressed their desire to cooperate with Vietnamese enterprises in the fields of transport infrastructure, automobile industry, automation, smart cities, green energy development and healthcare.

Speaking at the Economic Forum of Styria (Republic of Austria) - Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Barbara Eibinger-Miedl, Minister of Economy, Tourism, Science and Research of Styria - Republic of Austria, emphasized that the trade and investment relations between Vietnam and Austria are growing stronger. The Austrian business delegation visited Vietnam this time with the desire to expand investment cooperation in areas of strength such as: transport infrastructure, automobile industry, automation, smart cities, green energy development and healthcare. These are also the areas in which Austrian businesses have invested and intend to expand investment and cooperation in the coming time in the context of making good use of the Vietnam - Europe Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). Ms. Barbara Eibinger-Miedl hopes that through the forum as well as direct connections between businesses of the two countries, the two sides will have a deeper understanding of each other's opportunities, potentials and advantages; as well as creating conditions for investors from the state of Styria to expand their investment and business in Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa.

Sharing about the trade potential between the two countries, Mr. Dietmar Schwank, Austrian Trade Counselor in Ho Chi Minh City, said that currently, there are about 200 Austrian enterprises operating in Vietnam. In particular, Vietnam is both the largest export and import market for Austrian goods in the ASEAN region. According to statistics (except for the interruption period due to the pandemic), in recent years, Vietnam's export turnover to Austria has increased by an average of about 32%/year and in the opposite direction, Austrian enterprises have also exported to the Vietnamese market with a growth rate of nearly 20%/year.

Mr. Dietmar Schwank said that with the advantage of EVFTA, Austrian enterprises consider Vietnam as a gateway to expand the market in the ASEAN region. Austrian enterprises expect to have stronger growth in the coming time in the context of Vietnam's strong recovery after the pandemic. "Austrian enterprises want to become world-class partners of Vietnam", Mr. Dietmar Schwank emphasized.

Sharing with Austrian enterprises about the potential and strengths of Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Cao Thi Phi Van, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Center (ITPC), said that Vietnam is a destination for investors around the world and Ho Chi Minh City is one of the top choices of investors with the strength of being the center of the southern key economic region with a population of over 10 million people, and an average income per capita double that of the whole country.

Along with that, one of the biggest advantages of Ho Chi Minh City is the highly qualified and skilled human resources with more than 4.6 million workers.

Regarding attracting foreign investment, Ms. Van said that the City currently has more than 11,007 valid foreign investment projects from 115 countries and territories. Of which, the Republic of Austria has 21 investment projects in the City with a total investment capital of more than 42 million USD, ranking 33rd out of 115 countries and territories registering to invest and do business in the City.

Deputy Director of ITPC Cao Thi Phi Van said: Currently, Ho Chi Minh City is the locality with the largest and most diverse number of enterprises in the country, with nearly 400,000 enterprises operating in all fields. At the same time, the City also prioritizes attracting investors using high technology, with strengths in the field of research and development; financial investors, with new technology with high intellectual content, environmentally friendly; digital economy, artificial intelligence application; information technology industry; industry towards automation, using clean energy, renewable energy, etc.

Ms. Van said that at the forum, ITPC invited 110 enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City operating in the fields in which 23 enterprises from Austria wanted to cooperate and invest in the fields of transport infrastructure, smart cities, automobile industry, automation, electronics, architecture, waste and medical waste treatment, to exchange, share experiences, connect investments, and strengthen investment cooperation for mutual development.

In the coming time, ITPC and the Austrian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City will be a bridge to support trade and investment for businesses of the two localities to cooperate and develop together.
